It is also a place to recharge, refuel and reconnect with ourselves and the outside world. We can lose ourselves while finding what we are truly looking for. Mother Nature gives us so much without expecting to receive anything back. We believe that it is our duty as human beings, but also as a company, to do our best to protect and preserve it. MeroWings is therefore proud to announce its partnership with the Coral Reef Alliance (CORAL), a non-profit, environmental NGO that is on a mission to save the world’s coral reefs.
The Coral Reef Alliance: Preserving the delicate ecosystem of coral reefs worldwide
CORAL was founded out of the reverence and fascination that people have for corals and the beautiful environments they create. This appreciation soon turned into a mission to galvanize the SCUBA diving community to take action to protect coral reefs. The organization is dedicated to the preservation of the delicate ecosystem of coral reefs worldwide. CORAL actively works with communities on projects that halt overfishing, combat land based pollution, monitor and maintain water quality, and identify research based techniques and methodologies that rebuild damaged reef structures all over the world. In parallel, the NGO is continuously expanding the scientific understanding of how corals adapt to climate change and applying this information to give reefs the best chance to thrive for generations to come.

Coral reefs in danger: Why is it important to protect coral reefs?
Coral reefs are the most biodiverse marine ecosystems in the world. They provide an important ecosystem for underwater life, protect coastal areas by reducing the power of waves hitting the coast, and provide a crucial source of income for millions of people. At the same time coral reefs around the world are at a huge risk due to threats as overfishing, water pollution and habitat destruction. Besides that, thanks to global warming and rising ocean temperatures, they also have to battle global dangers such as coral bleaching. According to recent examination results of the Coral Reef Alliances’ studies 75 percent of the world’s coral reefs are threatened, and 27 percent have been lost beyond repair. In addition to that one-third of reef-building corals are considered at risk of extinction. Without decisive action, coral reefs and the communities that rely on them could be irreversibly affected.
Corporate responsibility: What is MeroWings doing to help protecting the coral reefs?
According to CORAL, the fate of reefs worldwide might be decided in the next 25 years. As it is estimated that enough reef-building corals can be saved to provide benefits to people and wildlife for generations to come, if the global coral reef conservation community can establish 45 adaptive reefscapes around the world by the year 2045, MeroWings has joined forces with the environmental NGO to support this cause. Therefore MeroWings donates 10% of each sale of every product included in the MeroWings Coral Collection and the MeroWings Ocean Collection directly to the Coral Reef Alliance. Sales directly fund projects that halt overfishing, combat land based pollution, monitor and maintain water quality, and identify research based techniques and methodologies that rebuild damaged reef structures all over the world.
